Welcome to the Languages Section of learninginrotherham.org.uk

The aim of this section is to connect languages providers throughout  Rotherham by listing events, contacts and sources of information.

The overall aims can be expressed as in the soon to be published ‘Languages Strategy for Rotherham’.

  • To shape policies for teaching, learning and training in foreign languages in Rotherham
  • To meet the language needs of Rotherham businesses to  enable them to compete in export markets
  • To celebrate the richness and diversity of multicultural Rotherham
  • To enable adults to learn languages for travel, pleasure and to enhance their employability.

The vision of the strategy is that Rotherham will become a town where:-

  • skills in all languages are valued and all languages are seen as equal
  • language learning is accessible, encouraged and supported from the earliest years
  • being multi-lingual is celebrated everywhere – not just amongst the few
  • through learning languages, the people of Rotherham become more outward looking, open minded, confident and cosmopolitan.

The Languages Strategy will be launched on Septeber 25th 2006 at The Carlton Park Hotel Rotherham between 6.00pm and 7.00pm. (Click on the News and Events page for details)
