The Connected Community Project is an extension of the Rotherham Grid for Learning (RGfL), the aim of which is to broaden the community actively connected to learning through ICT. This community should be defined as the full range of Rotherham citizens who engage in learning activities. The Connected Community project focuses particularly on;
Adult learners – especially those who engage at local centres of activity |
Parents – especially of early years and school children |
Businesses – especially SMEs and those involved in work experience placements |
RMBC, the Rotherham Learning Partnership and the Rotherham ICT Strategy Group are committed to creating and sustaining the Rotherham Grid for Learning which is the foundation for achieving the objectives of Connected Community. As a result the wider community of Rotherham will be able to engage with ICT via e-learning, e-citizenship and e-commerce.
Since its conception the Connected Community project has developed markedly, adding to the community and vocational aspects of the partnership and developing links to complimentary local projects such as Rotherham Ready. The RCCP steering group has been working with Yorkshire Forward, exploring wider infrastructure potential through local wireless hubs and the sub-regional broadband as well as the Rotherham Grid for Learning.
