ICT is an essential aspect of Adult Community Learning, for learners as a necessary tool in employment and daily life and for tutors in delivering varied and interactive courses. The Training Needs Analysis carried out by ACLearn concluded that ACL is becoming increasingly varied in terms of the range of venues, learners and staff and levels of awareness in ICT and that learner’s expectations of available technologies and resources are rapidly increasing. Rotherham learning partner organisations are rising to the challenge of meeting the needs of ACL tutors in this area in a variety of ways. Information about e-Learning in ACL and e-Learning Resources created by the Rotherham E-guides can be accessed from this site and, in addition a range of staff training and development opportunities will be made available during in the coming months.
Initiatives designed to help ACL practitioners integrate ICT into their teaching and courses are taking place in addition to a variety of specialist ICT courses at differing levels. These specialist courses are held at academies such as Cent@Magna, Rotherham College of Art and Technology and Thomas Rotherham College.
The government is committed to ensuring that development of the skills necessary to enable adults to use ICT for the ever-increasing wide range of social, educational and citizenship is available to all.
Rotherham Borough Council views ICT availability to all sectors of society as high priority, as indicated in the Rotherham Community Strategy, the Rotherham ICT Action Plan produced by the Rotherham Lifelong Learning Partnership and the Rotherham Education, Culture and Leisure Services 2005-2010 ICT Strategy, all of which can be downloaded from this website. |
