E-learning is defined as the use of ICT in delivering and supporting learning which includes using any form of interactive digital technology in the teaching and learning process. It tends to be associated with development and use of online learning resources stored on CD-ROM or on the Web, either on a local network or an Internet-based service.
The increased focus on ‘any time anywhere’ learning facilities has put e-learning centre stage on the national agenda. Appropriately used as part of a mix of learning activities, it can be a powerful way of opening up new learning opportunities for individuals in the community as well as at work, with the added benefit that ‘the medium is the message’ in helping learners to improve their ICT skills.
With the increased emphasis on ICT in ACL through the ICT Skill for Life Curriculum, e-learning has become an invaluable tool to ACL practitioners and one that is being eagerly taken up in Rotherham.
