Welcome to the 14-19 section of the Rotherham Lifelong Learning Partnership website.
On 23 February 2005, the Department for Education and Skills published the 14-19 Education and Skills White Paper in response to recommendations from Sir Mike Tomlinson’s 14-19 Reform Working Group.The White Paper sets out proposals to:
- Ensure that every young person masters functional English and maths before they leave education
- Improve vocational education
- Stretch all young people and help universities to differentiate between the best candidates
- Re-motivate disengaged learners
- Ensure delivery
There are potentially radical implications for the curriculum, the development of progression routes, the provision of advice and guidance, and the delivery of teaching and learning through ICT and e-services.
Rotherham is already committed to an extensive programme of staff development to support schools in the development and implementation of progressive 14-19 programmes. The funding to support training and development for 14-19 comes from a range of sources, including the Objective One ‘Pathways to Success Programme’, AWIASF (Area Wide Inspection Action Plan Standards Fund) and the Learning and Skills Council.
